Captivating Calaba


According to the locals, Calaba may have gotten its place name from the Iloco word calab/kalab meaning to climb. People living across the river may have had to climb through rocks to get to that part of the area we now call Calaba.

There's also a big rock on this side of the river that has been historically called Takkim Manok or chicken poop because of its resemblance as a big chicken poop and home to Maria, a sirena or mermaid of Calaba. This is also what brave boys and men use as a diving platform during the summer/dry season.
